When the Wollongbar Garden Club was formed in 1993, the emphasis was heavily on garden competitions. The Betteridge sisters from Lismore, Emily and Nancy, realised that there were many other members who worked hard to keep the Club going who did not enter or win these competitions. They donated an annual trophy to be awarded to a member who had given exceptional service to the Club.
The first recipient in 1999 was Noel Herden (now deceased), who designed and copyrighted the Club’s emblem and logo of the Lone Pine. Over the years it has been awarded to couples and more than once to exceptional workers.
The Committee usually decides who will be the recipient each year, but one year, all Club members voted.
